About Velbus

Velbus is a Belgian brand that makes smart buildings accessible and future-proof. Our automation solutions power energy management, off-grid applications, smart ventilation & HVAC control, and innovative lighting worldwide.

You’ll join an enthusiastic team of engineers where your work has immediate, visible impact on the product. No endless corporate pipelines—here you quickly see your code in action.

Your role

As a Firmware Engineer, you are the driving force behind the smart functions of our modules. You write and optimize embedded software for microcontrollers and the protocols that underpin our ecosystem. From time to time you’ll also contribute to hardware development or support colleagues with validation and prototyping.

Concretely, you will:

  • Develop, optimize, and debug embedded firmware (C/C++, STM32).
  • Integrate communication protocols (CAN, I²C, SPI, UART, …).
  • Translate ideas and user stories into working proofs-of-concept.
  • Prototype, validate, and test new modules.
  • Support production with test scenarios and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate to raise the bar in energy management, HVAC, lighting control, and IoT features.

Your profile

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics/ICT, or equivalent through experience.

At least a few years of experience in embedded firmware development.

Strong knowledge of embedded C/C++ and microcontrollers (STM32 is a plus).

Understanding of communication protocols (CANbus experience is a plus).

You work accurately, think analytically, and enjoy collaboration.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with hardware development (PCB design, component selection, prototyping).
  • Knowledge of low-power design, EMC guidelines, and certification processes.
  • Basic Python or 3D design (Inventor) for tools and automation.
  • Interest in IoT and wireless communication (BLE, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, …).

What we offer

  • A role with real impact: your firmware could be in smart-building systems worldwide tomorrow.
  • A small yet strong team where your voice matters and innovation is encouraged.
  • Extensive knowledge transfer from a senior engineer who is retiring.
  • Variety across firmware, prototyping, and occasional hardware work.
  • Competitive salary and fringe benefits.
